Vacation again!

As if the last two and a half months weren't enough, I've just received some good news. Chuseok, the Korea 3-day harvest festival, which in past years has fallen on such lame dates as Fri-Sat-Sun or Sat-Sun-Mon, has decided to fall upon a glorious, vacation-maximizing Tues-Weds-Thurs this year. Add to this the fact that I naturally have Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays off, and I get a 6-day weekend. Oh, and also, the school has decided to give us Monday off as well, meaning I get to tack on one more weekend AND the Friday before it. Might as well count the Thursday afternoon too, since I finish at 3.

So, September 15th to the 26th off. Somehow I feel myself leaning towards resigning the contract. Uh oh.

That's how they suck you in...

At first, this comment was very painful. I don't mean that it was insulting, but rather that it encouraged me to acknowledge a somewhat ugly truth. But then I re-evaluated.

The original shock came from the word "they," which made me felt like I was being sucked back in to the world of "things I have recently been trying to fight against." But really, 2 month intersession vacations and numerous mid-semester vacations are not at all a normal tactic that the bigger "they" use to hook you. The "they" that I despise uses exhausting hours, promises and threats regarding social status and self-esteem, and created desires to keep you needing to work.

On the other hand, this job, for all its shortcomings, gives me time to read, write, think, and visit farms, all of which are part of my transition out. I understand the point that the attractiveness of the job may keep me around (when I could just up and go come February), but I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say that it's sucking me in.

Appropriate pseudonym, by the way.

I learned the Korean word for pseudonym from my/Chris's Korean words from Chinese roots book. It's composed of the Chinese character for fake and the word for name. 가명 假名. Easy as pie.

glad to see my comment elicited a reaction longer than the original post!
