It's different for two reasons:
1)for Koreans, a person is 1 year old when he's born.
2)for Koreans, a person's birthday occurs at lunar new year. though they also celebrate western style birthdays.

Thus, depending on the time of year, korean and western ages can be either equal (maybe) or off by as many as 2 years. Right now, I'm 23 in America and 24 in Korea. But after Lunar New Year ()feb 17thish) and before my bday (happy bday jamal) I was 22 in America and 24 in Korea.

That's all for now.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17198921079835614264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37894952.post-29271030654843624932007-07-13T16:39:00.000-07:002007-07-13T16:39:00.000-07:00It was laid, not lain. That is, do they use the Gregorian calendar typically for day-to-day use and just count birthdays by the lunar calendar, or what?

Jamal

I'm glad you met someone who knows how to pronounce UMbrella.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37894952.post-66385466252131028212007-07-12T09:22:00.000-07:002007-07-12T09:22:00.000-07:00Wow, that was a delicious post! The inside rotates slower than the outside, since there is less distance travelled (smaller circumference) in the same amount of time as the outside (larger circumference)

Same thing happens on a CD. So when you buy a cd drive that can read at "52x," they really mean that it can read the very outside edge of the CD at 52x, but it reads the inside and middle tracks much slower.

Bam!Bob Harwighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06052696358851738047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37894952.post-39146876350789680442007-07-11T23:22:00.000-07:002007-07-11T23:22:00.000-07:00I was only kind of being sarcastic. Except I confused myself and I think that, actually, the two parts have different velocities but equal RPMs. Does anyone know the answer here?

Basically, the path that a point on the outside has to travel to do 1 revolution is shorter than the path that a point on the inside has to travel, so either

1) they go the same speed but take different amounts of time to complete a revolution (which is absurd because they're physically part of the same unit)
2) their RPMs are the same but the speed is different, which seems equally whack.

we need a physicist.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17198921079835614264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37894952.post-71846505812722405482007-07-11T13:06:00.000-07:002007-07-11T13:06:00.000-07:00thank you for giving me something to do while i am...thank you for giving me something to do while i am alone in my hotel room in germany, too scared to escape outside alone in the dark

p.s. you actually made me start thinking that the inside and outside of a wheel have different RPMs. you and your darn serious sarcasm.Megatronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18099871066824820850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37894952.post-10865104553949963672007-07-11T02:27:00.000-07:002007-07-11T02:27:00.000-07:00Your pun is even funnier since my intials are MAR....Your pun is even funnier since my intials are MAR.

As for the age thing, you're spot on. This part of the world rotates faster. Yeah, not really.

I'm glad we've all been updated regarding your whereabouts. My one question is related to this comment: Yenna, who’s probably 7 or 8 in American years or 8 or 10 in Korean.

WHAT? I mean, I know its a different language, and culture, and alphabet, and hemisphere... but does that part of the world rotate faster or something? I'm quite confused.Bob Harwighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06052696358851738047noreply@blogger.com
